Record-Breaking Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge Raises Over $151,000 for Special Olympics South Carolina!

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On Saturday, February 1, nearly 900 brave participants took the icy plunge at the Sands Ocean Club for the annual Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge, making this year’s event one for the record books! Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of individuals, teams, and schools, the event raised an astounding $151,000 to benefit Special Olympics South Carolina.

From first-time plungers to longtime supporters, participants showed up in full force, dressed in everything from wacky costumes to team gear, all embracing the event’s mission: “Freezin’ for a Reason.”

Top Fundraisers Make a Splash

Leading the fundraising efforts this year was Jackie Allen, a dedicated supporter who raised over $6,000 as part of Spanky’s Pub Plunge Team. Team Spankys also claimed the title of Top Fundraising Team, bringing in an impressive $42,000!

For the second year in a row, North Myrtle Beach Middle School took home the honor of Top Fundraising School, contributing over $12,000 to support Special Olympics athletes across the state. The dedication of these students and faculty members highlights the powerful impact of community involvement in making a difference.

A Day Full of Fun, Energy, and Community Spirit

The atmosphere at the Sands Ocean Club was electric as Duane Farmer, the event’s official DJ and Emcee , kept the energy high with a mix of great tunes while plungers and spectators enjoyed the festivities.

Representatives from several local law enforcement and emergency service agencies, including the Horry County Police Department, Horry County Sheriff’s Office, Myrtle Beach Fire Department, Myrtle Beach Police Department, and North Myrtle Beach Police Department, were on hand to show their support and participate in the fun. Their presence underscored the strong ties between the community and this worthy cause.

The Biggest Plunge Yet!

With almost 900 participants, this year’s Polar Plunge was the largest in Myrtle Beach history! The funds raised will help Special Olympics South Carolina provide year-round training, competitions, and programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities, empowering them through the joy of sports and inclusion.

This event just keeps growing, and it’s truly heartwarming to see the community come together for such an important cause,” said event director Marcus Rhodes. “We’re beyond grateful for every single plunger, donor, and volunteer who made this happen.
