THIS YEAR’S EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER.
The Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge is a beloved annual event where individuals, businesses, teams, and groups from across our community come together to support Special Olympics South Carolina. Whether you’re brave enough to plunge into the chilly Atlantic Ocean or cheer on those who do, the Polar Plunge has always been about raising awareness and critical funds for an incredible cause: providing year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
By participating in the Polar Plunge, you help Special Olympics athletes improve physical fitness, build confidence, demonstrate courage, and experience the joy of competition. It’s never just been about jumping into cold water — it’s about showing up, standing together, and making a real difference in the lives of athletes across South Carolina.
From costumes and contests to music, food, and camaraderie, the Polar Plunge is an unforgettable experience and a true celebration of community spirit, kindness, and inclusion.
It’s your chance to be…
“Freezin’ for a Reason!”
2026 Event Update: Safety First
Unfortunately, due to severe winter weather and a Winter Storm Warning issued for our region, the 2026 Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge has been cancelled to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers, and first responders.
Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski (WPDE) has confirmed that this winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall, dangerously cold temperatures, and hazardous travel conditions throughout the weekend. We strongly encourage everyone to stay home, stay warm, and stay safe while this storm moves through our area.
❄️ Winter Storm Warning
From: Saturday 1:00 AM – Sunday 4:00 PM EST
Expected: 5–8 inches of snow, locally higher amounts possible
Impacts: Extremely dangerous travel conditions, prolonged freezing temperatures
We understand that some may still want to take the plunge; however, a county travel advisory is in effect. Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that everyone respect the advisory, stay off the roads, and remain safe while the inclement weather passes.
Fundraising Is NOT Cancelled
While we won’t be plunging together at the beach this year, our mission is still very much alive.
With nearly $600,000 in anticipated government funding reductions in 2026, thousands of Special Olympics athletes across South Carolina are at risk of losing access to training, competitions, and life-changing opportunities. These programs mean more than sports — they provide confidence, belonging, physical health, and a supportive community.
That’s why fundraising continues — and why your support matters now more than ever.
